Dress to impress

Hi lovely people, I am officially done with spring break, which was a lot fun!, time for real life to begin now.. going back to lots of studying/work. Since its almost June, I have been on the lookout for a nice dress for graduation, or just a dress I could wear to a nice grown up dinner, so when eShakti (a custom-made clothing company)contacted me for a collaboration, I immediately went on their website and chose this dress!. I had seen other girls talk about eShakti, so it wasn’t all new to me. My favorite thing about them is the fact that you can customize your clothing to your liking, how great is that?. They have sizes 0-36W and also very diverse styling (modern chic, edgy, vintage..everything). Their prices are also very affordable for custom-made, quality clothing.

Here’s how it works:
1. Go on eShakti and choose an item
2. customize to your liking
3. Order and receive your item in 5-7 days! if you live in the U.S

What I chose:
I chose this black floral dress because I loved the sunflowers on it and also the cut of the dress. When I received it, it looked exactly like it did online, and the fabric is high quality from the feel. It fit me perfectly, I am very impressed. I wore the dress with minimal accessories to avoid having a “busy” look, since my dress is floral, then paired the look with my favorite Marshalls heels.

My favorite picks on the site: this , this , and this black and white one
My customization:
I chose to omit the pockets because honestly I didn’t think I would use them, and they would just make my hips look wider haha. That’s all I did, then ordered my size and the style as it was. If they don’t have your size, you could put in your measurements, and you can also customize the style, e.g: long or short sleeves, round or v-neck etc

I hope you loved this post, am glad you stopped by.Enjoy this promo code:”purejackie” for 10% discount on any purchases from 04/05/2016 – 05/05/2016, for more inspiration from eShakti – Facebook // instagram// pinterest

Thank you eShakti for the lovely dress, all opinions are my own.

26 before 27

OMG! you guys, I am turning 26…whaaaat?, where did time go? I feel like I was just 21 the other day. I am excited and scared because I am becoming more of an adult, haha, like….need to look more responsible and well put together?. I feel as though turning 25 felt more like, “this is your last party year” feel..and 26 is need to graduate, get a stable job and start a family..sheeesh!…maybe am being too hard on myself. My plan for 26 is to have even more adventure than I did as a 25 y/o. I have seen bloggers do the 20 something list before next year thing, and I always love seeing people’s “want to-do” list so here goes:

  1. More adventure! – Hike the Enchantments, Mt Baker and the Northern cascades before I leave Washington.
  2. Pass the boards and get the job of my dreams.
  3. Go to vegas!
  4. Sky dive (outside, I have done indoor chambers twice so I think am ready 🙂 )
  5. Talk to friends (long-distance) and family more (which includes in-laws)

OK, I will keep it short, just so I don’t have too much pressure to complete the list. I am excited for what’s to come!, and I appreciate all my lovely friends and family who are always by my side…life would not be livable without you people.

These are my last adventure photos as a 25 year old!!!, it was the best solo-adventure I have had in a while, I literally had the whole place to myself during the hike…..a little worried at first (am used to seeing people on hikes I go on alone) but after a few hours in, I was glad to be there. Isn’t this place gorgeous?, Ian thinks I am too easy to impress, he said if I went to Europe I would die..haha, so I replied: please take me there!, I may have just scored a trip to Europe 🙂

The trail is called the ancient lakes trail in Quincy, WA and the best time to visit is spring or winter, too hot and dusty in the summer or fall, unless you get there pretty early for the sunrise or late for the sunset (but then you have to drive in total darkness)

Cheers to more adventures as the years go by!

Thanks for stopping by as always

A wintry spring

So I decided to go hike the olympic national park area last week post finals, and I ended up on beautiful lake crescent. The area is so breathtakingly beautiful and serene, I just wanted to stay there and never leave..
The lake has a lodge with cabins for rental, which is open in the warmer months, and is a perfect getaway from the busy urban life, so if you’re near Washington state, do it! you’ll love it! Lots of hiking spots too and kayaking on the lake.
I also learnt that this lake is the deepest in Washington, thus its deep sapphire blue color (also due to lack of nitrogen and algae).
On one side of the lake were residential homes, right on the water, can you imagine waking up to this beautiful view everyday..
It wasn’t a difficult hike, so yes I was wearing a dress haha
It was mostly relaxing and refreshing to be able to go on an outdoor adventure.

Bright colors

When I put together this outfit I was amazed at how well everything went together, because I have had this items in my closet for a long time and never thought to pair them together. I love when I can shop my own closet instead of spending money buying new “trendy” items every season, like seriously?, that is not real life…at least in my opinion, but no offense to more trendy people who go in that direction, I love watching the trends anyway, am just too poor haha, I digress, I just want you to know that looking good doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg.
Outfit details:
Coat – Rue 21
Peplum top – Marshalls
Distressed denim pants – American Eagle
Booties – Marshalls
Bag – Forever 21
Are you all excited for warmer, brighter weather?, I am so ready! I feel more motivated to do things now since its sunny on most days. I especially love the sunsets, and of course the blossoming flowers everywhere, its so beautiful and everything feels so alive. I love it.
Here are some spring quotes for you:

Spring will come, and so will happiness. Hold on. Life will get…warmer. – Anita Krizzan

“Some old-fashioned things like fresh air and sunshine are hard to beat.”

I’m sorry for the things I said when it was winter

If we had no winter the spring wouldn’t be so pleasant.

Style – 90s kid

Yesterday I got off work and couldn’t wait to change into something comfortable, but I couldn’t wear pajamas since I had to run errands first, so I slipped on my softest dress top and my Old Navy tights, then decided to wear my denim jacket and when I looked in the mirror, I felt like a 90s kid with my afro puff and oversized denim jacket haha. I adore old fashion trends; effortless and unique. While I like to look well put together in modern fashion looks, there’s something about older fashion trends that makes me a little happier.

Merry Christmas!

merry christmas
You’ve probably heard this a million times and in so many ways, but…..from me to you….Merry christmas and happy holidays to those who don’t celebrate christmas. It’s officially that day we’ve all been preparing for. I unfortunately haven’t spent christmas with my family for a couple of years, but I spend most christmas days with friends, or extended family who live many states away. My first christmas away from my family was actually ok, I had an awesome group of friends from college and we cooked a ton of food, exchanged gifts and just had a good time with the girls. My second christmas without my family was the toughest, I chose to work extra shifts at work to distract myself because I was so homesick, it also snowed a ton in Washington and I had no power in my apartment for 3 days!!! – worst christmas ever (ha)
The other christmas days after that(2), I would either spend it with my roommate and some friends (invite people over) or with my fiancé and co-workers, nothing too crazy haha. This year, a friend invited us to a christmas party, but I will be working late that day, and am planning on getting some yummy food for my co-workers who worked all day christmas 🙂
Merry- christmas
On the other hand, my family gets together every year with everybody else in the family (I have a huge family), and just have a good ol’ time while sending me photos and videos of everything I am missing ;( Next year though, I will be going home for christmas, so thats something to look forward to.

Again, Merry christmas! Happy holidays!

In case you are wondering, no I am not in Brooklyn New York (ha), wouldn’t that be lovely? My title is from  the movie Brooklyn which I saw a few weeks back with some wonderful company. Ian was dragged along of course, and he rolled his eyes every time we mentioned the movie, because it is a love/romance story that he thought was too girly for him, but later agreed it worth the time. I cried nearly the whole movie, so you know its an amazing love story haha. So I highly recommend it if you haven’t seen it, maybe a good movie to see with family or friends over the holidays.

Ok, in this post I will be mentioning a couple of my favorite things this season that I recommend you try if looking for things to do with others/for others.

  1. See a play; a charlie brown christmas play(good for kids too)// what a beautiful life// The nutcracker (I love the nutcracker!!)
  2. Make a meal for everyone; Cranberry and pomegranate bruschetta (I felt tears in my eyes after biting into have to try this)// cranberry margaritas – you can make it non-alcoholic if you like// bacon wrapped brussels sprouts – perfect appetizer, literally took me 10 mins to prep and 30 mins in the it// potatoes – this are very good, everyone will like them// Eggnog French toast – even if you don’t like eggnog, this you will like.
  3. Go outdoors and do an activity – there are so many outdoor activities around the holidays, from shopping, snow sports (skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, or just walking) to just taking a stroll outside with after a big meal.

I hope you are all having a wonderful christmas eve, enjoy time off of work if you have it, and as always thanks for stopping by, I appreciate it.

The brave

In today’s world, nobody bats an eye when a male talks about adventuring/traveling alone, because we have set this as a norm, “males can do whatever they want” type of thing. However, in my mind and this is supported by real statistics, males are as much in danger adventuring/traveling alone as are women. When I moved to Washington state, the most attractive thing to me was the endless beauty in the wilderness. God truly did love this side of the world….I quickly became addicted to being outdoors, and I enjoyed hiking immensely. It is my way of distressing and recharging after stressful work weeks or school days. A few times I do hike with other people, but I love going solo because of the freedom to hike more difficult trails and just take it all in without being bothered. I never for one second felt threatened by anything/anyone on the trails, I meet a lot of fellow young lady hikers on the trails, hiking solo too and this encourages me even more.
Tips on hiking/camping/traveling/adventuring solo:

1. Know your environment well. This means doing a lot of research on the conditions of the place you are visiting, and also reading reviews about people’s experiences there. I feel very safe on Washington trails because the areas are overall very safe and far from urban places, meaning less chances for crimes. You are more likely to be in danger in a city full of people than in a Washington state trail in my opinion. I do not hike urban parks because homeless people go there for shelter, I prefer out and back trails that require driving far away from the city to get to.

2. Plan accordingly. Safety first. Have a first aid kit customized for yourself (if you have allergies, bring allergy medicine. Have pain medicine, antiseptic, bandages, small rope/tourniquet for emergency purposes, pepper spray or bear spray if in bear country, pocket knife – could be used for so many things including protecting yourself and a whistle too). Have extra food, extra clothing and most important dress for the weather.

3. Last tip, let someone know where you are. I always send a quick text to someone about where I am going to be and the time I expect to be back. If they don’t hear back from me at that time, then they would act accordingly.

I hope this makes you feel more at ease about going solo in whichever place you choose to. Just do your research well and be prepared. I met someone who loves camping solo and she always has a gun with her for safety, if you love adventure, don’t let anything stop you. Just be smart about things.

If you hate being alone and don’t care for solo adventuring, then find someone like minded and in somewhat same physical fitness(I don’t mean this in a bad way at all, if your partner can’t do what you can, then you don’t get to do what you want. Some people are also endless complainers and won’t stop whining – I have seen this a lot while hiking and it is so annoying) Any how, I hope this was somewhat of an encouragement to those seeking adventure, have fun and thanks for stopping by.

Baby its cold….

Today is a very exciting day for me because I am officially done with finals!..boom..drops mic and walks away…haha, seriously though, I wanted fall quarter to be over so bad. I am always excited the first few weeks of school, then after that things start to get a little boring for me. It was a fun school quarter though, I have great classmates, and that makes things seem like they are going much faster than they actually are.

Even though the sun has been setting at 4p.m lately, I managed to squeeze in a little photo session of my outfit today. I have been thinking of how much people spend around christmas time buying new outfits, whatever’s in etc, and am trying hard not to fall into that trap, because most holiday outfits are things you never wear again. I am not saying that my wallet hasn’t suffered this holiday, but I am trying hard not to buy things I will never wear again. I like to be practical about things.
In today’s outfit, I am wearing a coat I bought 2 years ago at old navy. I honestly love old navy’s winter selections, they have good quality coats (they go a long way) and leggings too. My boots are at least 2 years old too, from Marshall’s. I get a lot of compliments on these boots even though they seem like any other boots. The dress is fairly new, I bought it in the summer from Target, and denim shirt is also from old navy (old)

I hope you are all enjoying your holidays so far, I am excited to wrap gifts and start sending them out, and also decorating my little apartment some more.
I also plan on blogging more while am on my break and going on some adventures (I can finally do some snow-shoeing!!, am excited). It has been snowing non-stop on the mountains and this is my last winter in washington, so I plan on doing all the things I have always wanted to do here. Be safe and warm everyone, and keep out an eye for more posts, possibly every other day.

I love you guys and thanks for all your support this year.

Love of my life

Hi lovely people,
This post is way overdue, but its here eventually…yay
The love of my life and I celebrated 3 years together a month ago….it is a milestone for us, we can’t believe how fast time has flown.
I guess time flies when you’re having fun haha
It seems just like yesterday when we met and were getting to know each other
In the little time we have been together, we’ve learnt that love is a choice we both make everyday, to respect one another and be there for each other.
I never imagined that I could love someone as much as I do now, and I do not take it for granted.
We’ve learnt a lot about each other and we are both looking forward to more anniversaries together.
Cheers to many many more years filled with love!
Engaged couples

Important things to remember when you are in a relationship (could be dating or married):
1. Communication is key: Never hold back on how you feel about certain things because you’ll end up bottling things up and taking them out on the wrong people. Honesty is also key in communication, it will benefit both parties in the long run

2. Be trustworthy: I like to know my partner in life is someone I can trust with my life and vice versa

3. The small little things matter: like remembering their favorite meal and making it/buying for them when they’ve been stuck at work and you know they are pretty hungry (just an example), or buying them their favorite perfume/cologne just because (not having to wait for an occasion to get it for them) – this little things make them happy and also shows that you care

4. Take care of yourself and have your own friends outside of the relationship: its nice to have mutual friends in the relationship, but you are also an individual and you do need your own way to unwind and re-generate? (is that a word haha), so having things that build you separately prevents feeling suffocated in the relationship.

5. Teach each other new adventures – keeps things interesting and you get to learn more about your partner too

6. Be respectful of one another: this is an umbrella that holds all things like not intentionally doing things to hurt each other and also being supportive of each others dreams and aspirations in life, and many more

7. Know your limits: This is also an umbrella for so many things but the short and tall of it, is do not compromise your morals or values just to impress others. Don’t stop your life goals so you could be there for someone, you are important as well, and if they value you, they will see this

8. Last but not least, don’t compare your relationship to other relationships or take advice from people who don’t know you or your significant other. I have had so many people ask me a question or 2 about myself and my fiancé and they then jump into giving me advice, and it is very off-putting especially if you are just meeting this person because they don’t know you at all. Every individual is unique in their own way, so comparing your r/ship to others can literally destroy what you have.

I hope you are all having a great December, eat all you can and don’t let guilt hold you back – just don’t forget to walk it off haha
