Current situation : Done with my school assignment, watching Monday night football as Seattle kicks the sh** out of the poor Detroit Lions, sucks to be a lion’s fan right now haha
1. Always wondering what I’ll be eating next (is this normal?, should I get some type of diagnosis?..ha)
2. Am thankful to be back in school, excited for the future.
3. Wanting some dainty lights to hang around my balcony…procrastination much
4. Wishing I had a dog, preferably a golden retriever or lab
5. Enjoying my mental health textbook(secretly diagnosing people…sshh)
6. Wondering if I over/under share on my blog. My favorite bloggers are open books, and I love that because I feel like portraying perfection or your highlights on a blog…always, is so unrealistic and un-relatable
7. Hoping I win this year in my fantasy football team (a girl can dream)
8. Disliking passive aggressive behavior online. I long for days I didn’t own any social media accounts sometimes
9.Needing more inspiration in terms of blog posts
10. Thinking about the hike that was yesterday…..😊
Can you spot the fox?, FYI: I was terrified
Spot the white mountain goat?, unfortunately I didn’t have my camera with me, so the phone camera was what I was using.
Enjoy your week friends!
Hello friends, did you guys have a great weekend?, whether just unwinding at home or doing some fun activities?
The outfit am posting was my favorite this weekend, I wore the comfiest American Eagle distressed jeans and my black and white peplum top from forever 21. I am not big into jeans so I had never honestly bought anything from AE, and the first pair I happened to get are like a dream. I usually wear leggings mostly and this pants feel like leggings honestly, so comfy.
Black and white peplum top: f21//Distressed denim pants: American Eagle//Shoes: Brogues from Amazon//Gold watch: Target//Earrings and necklace: F21
This weekend my fiancé and I got to go see Pippin the play and Oh brother! it was amazing. The broadway actors and actresses on the play are so talented and the plot was amazing, I was hooked from start to finish (just so you know the last play I saw…I fell asleep….am not naming names haha). So if you guys like plays or are looking for something fun to do, Pippin is highly recommended.
Have a lovely Monday ladies and gents, and thanks for stopping by.
Today I washed my hair and decided not to straighten it. I was craving that tiny afro look, so I did a “wash and go”
Ok, so lets start here….once upon a time (4 years ago), I was obsessed with natural black girls at my school and got sucked into youtube and a few months later I was chopping my permed locks (my roommate actually did it for me) and i had a tiny afro which I was so proud of! haha
However, 8 months into doing my natural hair, I got tired of it….and just wanted to have straight hair again….and so I did, which i really regretted afterwards because it shed so much.
Last year in august I got a weave installed and on take down day, the dang thing was so sewed into my hair that I accidentally cut my hair….so I decided to go to the hair salon and get a hair cut (end of September), I though I would grow out a pixie but it was so cold so I started braiding my hair and I just fell in love with braids.
This helped my hair grow out and now I can hold a ponytail after straightening…yay!, I am happy with my natural hair and hopefully I won’t be tempted to perm it again.
Below is my wash and go (I am very minimal with products, coz whats the point of being natural if you put in a million products haha)….if interested click on the video…it was a challenging one to film
Have a nice week guys 🙂
When I wrote my first monologue of a post at 18 years old, I never thought at 25 years old I would ever talk about shyness..seriously, it would have seemed like a retrogression of some sort, but I have realized, the older we get, the more self-aware and wiser we become, and I have truly grown from that 18 year old girl I used to be.
Are you one of those people who are just going about life and people around you start asking things like, “why are so quiet?, do you want to say something?” etc etc, if yes then stick around..
Growing up, I never would have categorized myself as a shy person/quiet, I always had a group of friends that I talked to, but people especially grown ups (teachers and family friends)would always tell my parents I was quiet or shy, and they gave it a negative connotation, making it seem like it was a bad thing..which made me want to get far away as possible from that label.
In college, shyness/being quiet became even more of a thing because I was in a different country going through a very different social adjustment, with college students who constantly pointed out my differences and socializing just became exhausting to me unless it was with Kenyan people (who obviously I clicked well with).
Out of the school environment, I still get the “quiet girl” label with my interactions with others, and at first I just wondered…is it such a bad thing to be quiet?, I know at times it may make situations a bit awkward with new people, and its required sometimes to feign interest in someone so as to diffuse this awkwardness. It also may make you seem uninterested in others around you, and sometimes you may be….but it paints as rude (in places like a friends house, a dinner or a party etc)
Most times, as a quiet person people may tend to take advantage of you, and thats where you have to clearly set boundaries and say “no am not happy with that and stand your ground”
It is ok to be naturally quiet, there’s nothing wrong with it. Find people who you click well with and be good friends with them, in social situations, fake it! haha it may become exhausting but if its unavoidable, you’ve got to.
Quiet people are also underestimated a lot, and are some of the smartest people I know. For expats living away from home and away from your comfort zone, different social environment with unfamiliar social behaviors may make you a shy/quiet person because you are afraid of embarrassing yourself due to lack of knowledge in certain things that are familiar to others around you, and also people may approach you less or even ignore/lack to acknowledge what you have to say just because you are so different. However, over time, we adjust and are able to socialize easily.
Lastly, if you are this type of person, don’t be intimidated by the crowd..i mean, whats the worst that could happen? (unless your life is on the line haha), keep on living your life and know that there are very many people out there who feel the same way you do…and we are all just people!
If you prefer seeing me talk about the topic, click on the video below…warning: I have a cold and may have blood shot eyes and a strange voice haha, please bear with me, I really wanted to talk about this. I would appreciate your feedback too 🙂
Ian and I recently did our engagement photos, and I decided it would be fun to do it ourselves vs a professional photographer. I know hiring someone would have probably yielded better quality photos but we both are very happy with the photos we got.
Reasons I did this:
1. Engagement sessions are usually a good way to choose a wedding photographer and kind of bond/be comfortable with them, and also get engagement photos (duh), but our wedding will be in Kenya so we won’t meet the photographer until a few weeks before the wedding so it wouldn’t have been helpful in that way
2. It’s fun and a good learning process for me because I love photography
3. We saved some cash and got good use out of my DSLR
Wondering how we did it?, if you are a blogger you have probably used a tripod and self timer technique before, for non-bloggers, yes we used a tripod and self timer (you can use a remote but I hate remotes)
I used Ian to focus and kind of frame the photo, clicked the shutter and ran to pose haha…..it was fun, we had some good laughs
We chose a less populated site at the park close to us(with occasional joggers and dog walkers) – it is easier to naturally pose without onlookers and a good way to avoid photo bombers
We had a casual and a dress up session, took us about an hour and a half. We did lots of walking though, since the 2 sites are kind of far apart. Took about 67 good photos haha, I think a professional photographer will do about 300 takes or even more, so don’t gasp at the 67 takes
One day I walked into Forever XX1 and there was literally a whole entire room full of Mickey Mouse clothing, I couldn’t just walk away you know ha, so I snugged this cute sweatshirt. It was perfect for today’s dull and chilly weather, casual and comfortable for running errands. My shorts are DIY from old “mom jeans” and I wore them today for the first time and I cannot be happier…
Even though warm weather is fun and easy, I was kind of missing chillier days so I could layer up a bit and this day was perfect to wear my tights with shorts. I hope you guys are having an awesome week so far, happy hump day
I also have to point out, how fun are long braids?, I can’t stop showing them off guys.

OK….my post title is inspired by what I am currently reading; where’d you go Bernadette by Maria Semple, pretty good book and the story is about a Seattle family which is a plus, I love reading books based where I currently live. So my outfit is super simple with a splash of color/spring feel, very comfortable and can be worn both at daytime to run errands or at night for a drink or casual party if you wear some heels and add a cute statement necklace. I thought it was funny at first when I found this floral blazer because I wouldn’t have purchased it if not for having seen someone wearing it that day, so when I saw it….I was like..hell yeah, I could totally rock this!

Totally out of the blue, but when I was writing this post an ad came on T.V about “female inc.” some sort of female empowerment program that inspires females to be bold and proud of who they are, showcase their talents, try out their abilities without fear etc.. and I thought of how scared I was at first to publicize my blog..I honestly was very against it because I was scared, when taking outfit pics outdoors I felt kind of silly and vain even…like seriously, I am not like the best dressed female in town, am horrible at doing my own make-up/hair….but seeing how other bloggers owned their personal taste and put themselves out there(despite the mean comments from some people), my insecurities fell, I got inspired to share and get to have a creative outlet I enjoy. If you don’t feel like a rockstar and frequently compare yourself to others, let that fall behind and chose to be bolder, confident in your own way. “Be daring, be different, be impractical, be anything that will assert integrity of purpose and imaginative vision against the play-it-safers, the creatures of the common place, the slaves of ordinary” – Cicel Beaton

Every time I wear this blazer, I get reminded of boarding school and uniforms. I got this as a gift a few years back and I wore it a lot to classes, then kind of forgot about it until now, it has a somewhat formal, preppy feel…If I was a teacher, this would be a staple of mine haha. The dress is thrifted for less than 10 bucks, I needed a classic white dress for spring/summer but now I realize a white dress can go with almost anything.

This is what I wore yesterday, I love these shorts, the cute pattern reminds me of a green blouse my mom owned in the 90s and a yellow scarf my grandma wore all the time haha..definitely a staple in my closet now. The weather was cooler in the morning and I thought…oh no, i def look stupid with shorts in this weather, but then suddenly it became warmer than I even thought it was going to get, so I fit right in.
I hope you guys are having a lovely week so far 🙂

Can you guys believe it’s the end of the week already, and the beginning of a new week for others? Man! time is going to fast. I hope you guys had a great week, I was really good about working out all of last week, and I hope things stay that way.
Today am wearing one of this winter’s favorite of mine. I’ve worn it so much just because it’s an easy and comfortable outfit (mostly without the belt). I love peter-pan collars, so cute and in cold weather there’s no need for scarfs.
On other news, I have done 2 hikes up the mountains in one week! Can life get any better than this haha. I literally want to hike all over Washington, there is so much natural beauty to be explored, and there’s nothing better than being out in the mountains after a long work week, even though one of my patient thinks I torture myself doing this, he asked me yesterday if my back was hurting from all the hiking haha
Have a lovely end of the weekend friends, feel free to comment if you like my outfit 🙂
