My Fall wishlist

I recently put myself on a spending freeze because I found out I spent way too much money this past summer, on food mostly! can you believe this!
Ok, so instead I am just window shopping online and feeling miserable because I can’t buy anything yet.
These are the current items I am wanting in my life. They do not necessarily match the fall theme, because who needs rules to live life haha

fall-wishlist

1. SPANX® Print Seamless Leggings : They look so comfortable, and I have heard great things about this brand of leggings, in terms of durability and comfort level. A good pair of leggings is my go-to in cold weather.

2. Vince Camuto ‘Melaya’ Over the Knee Boot : I love long over the knee boots but I have a hard time finding a pair that I like. I love how these look but will definitely be waiting for major sales on these ones 🙂

3. Billabong ‘Shoreline’ Slub Cardigan : I love fall sweaters and these one is a classic one. The perfect everyday fall sweater for casual looks, and still keeps you warm.

4. Long Sleeve Lace-Up Jumpsuit : Unfortunately this one got sold out, but fingers crossed, it will come back because….seriously, how beautiful is this jumpsuit.

5. BP. Lace Racerback Bralette : I love bralettes, but I only have one and believe me when I say I literally want to live in it. So comfy, I definitely need more, this is a necessity.

6. Steve Madden ‘Carrson’ Sandal :This is such a cute sandal. I am searching for a comfortable cute shoe for my wedding and this one is on the running to be my “it” shoe. It is also blue, so I can have “something blue” to bring me luck haha

7. Free People ‘Far Away’ Lace Top : I love lace and this top just stole my heart, I wish I could get it in like 4 colors: white, black, forest green and burgundy.

8. BP. ‘Trott’ Bootie : OK, I have enough booties to even want another pair, but I love these ones! I will definitely be hoping to get this pair as a gift so I don’t feel too guilty about spending haha

Things making me happy this fall

There has been a lot of negative things going on this past summer and now fall, from the raging monstrosity of infuriating politics in the United States, to destructive hurricanes displacing people in the south. I don’t like to ignore what’s going on because one, I am a very curious person, and second, I always feel an obligation to know what is going on around me, so if need be, I can help out by whatever means I am able to, be it emotional support, financial support, or just sympathizing with those in need, because if I was in their position, I would want the same thing.
Ok, now lets talk about what has been making me happy in the midst of the madness in this world

1. Podcasts
My life literally made a 360 degree turn around when I found out about podcasts. They are becoming quite mainstream now, so you may have heard about them too, but in case you haven’t, go! now! and find out about podcasts.
I was a huge fan of talk radio (NPR)…slightly embarrassed to put this out there haha, but I wasn’t interested in all the topics they had, so I would go back and forth between NPR and audio books until I found podcasts.
The awesome thing about podcasts is that they have a huge variety of topics to choose from, so there’s definitely something for everyone.
My favorite is NPR politics. The hosts talk politics, in an unbiased way, and also make it fun and relatable, while covering important topics.
Other fun ones I listen to: The Moth stories, Fresh air (I pick and choose what to listen to), Serial (3 seasons that I went through quick! nothing new yet)
I have tried listening to nursing/medicine ones..but OMG!the speakers are so boring I just can’t! For all fellow nurses out there, if you find something interesting let me know!

2. Movies & TV shows

Latest fun movie: Masterminds. I literally almost cried in laughter and still have giggles here and there when I remember lines from this movie, it was HILARIOUS. Ok now go see it!

TV: Vice principals on HBO was pretty awesome, I always looked forward to watching this on my days off. Currently waiting for season 2. If you have Netflix I loved Stranger things – totally binge-worthy. Other Netflix favorites are the marvel comic series; Dare Devil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, and also Better call Saul. Ok I will stop now, am glad you’ve found out what a TV-Holic I am haha.

3. Being outdoors.

I have discovered a few hikes in MO. Elephant rock was definitely my favorite, followed by Hahatonka state park. It is very beautiful in southwest MO right now because all the green trees are changing color. I am slowly getting charmed by this side of the world and I am loving it..sorry Seattle (you’ll always be my first love)

Laid back casual day date outfit

We recently went hunting for wineries in Missouri, and found one about 35 minutes from us. If you love your wine, please stay clear of Missouri wineries, it wasn’t quite what I thought it would be. The weather here doesn’t really work in favor of good flavorful grapes, and the result is an almost-bland wine. I will however not let that experience stop me from visiting more wineries, because who knows, I may get surprised, I have seen people say good things about other places, so there’s still hope.
This is the Outfit I wore for the day date to the winery. This heels remain my favorite because of how comfy they are. I can walk a whole day in them and not get any blisters or sore feet.

Autumn colors in St.Louis

all things fall
My favorite season with no doubt is spring (mainly because its birthday season for me 🙂 ),then my second favorite is “end of summer, beginning of fall” period. I love the transition period where we can still bare our legs and wear dainty dresses, but still pull off rich colors and eat/drink pumpkin flavored things, and start planning on decorating our houses with fall decor and candles that smell like apples, cinnamon, pumpkin spice… I love all of these fall stuff.
This last weekend I drove down to St. Louis, and went exploring. If you don’t know it yet, I moved in the middle of nowhere Missouri, in a small lovely town with very friendly people, but there is really nothing to explore in my small town, so my weekends and days off are spent in other bigger towns/cities.
Down in St. Louis, I found out about this church ruins, which was destroyed in the 1800’s by a bolt of electricity (some sources say lightening, but its controversial), and burned down. It was never built back up, so now the remains standing in ruins and covered by vines.

If you have been reading my blog for a while you probably have seen this forever 21 print dress a couple of times. I absolutely adore this dress and am impressed with how long is has lasted without looking old. The print is gorgeous, and the colors are very fitting for fall. I got some complements on the dress, down is St. Louis at this festival that I accidentally walked into, and who doesn’t love complements 🙂

Thanks for stopping by ladies and gentlemen, I hope you’re having a lovely fall so far.

Thinking is difficult, that’s why people judge.

Religion
Some of my close friends make fun of me for using the phrase “am not judging anyone, but..” I have literally used this phrase to death, and in most cases if my thoughts start this way, I just seal my lips and think more of the situation before putting my opinions out there.
I read an article this morning about how christianity is almost a dying art in the modern world we live in. This article attracted me because I do fall under “christian”, and have battled so hard with certain doctrines in certain churches..which led me to staying away from churches for a while until I found something fitting.
I struggle with how christians discriminate “passive aggressively” against people they don’t approve of..you preach that God is the only judge but turn around and judge people openly.Having being raised in a very small conservative Kenyan church, I disagreed with almost everything I saw in other churches I went to, and as I grew older and more knowledgeable on certain things, I realized how certain things I was taught, as I grew up in this small community church, were more cultural than “christian”
Having read the entire bible and analyzed almost every little verse, in half of grade school and most of high school, I became confused and conflicted by interpretations offered to me as I grew up.
Christians today live a life opposite of what their founder lived. They openly discriminate against gays and are anti abortion (without differentiating between a mother’s life in danger or a person knowingly getting rid of a fetus for the sake of it), when Jesus never mentioned demonizing these people. Jesus himself was more of a radical who challenged the christian establishment, and paid more attention to the sick and the poor, and unfortunately today christianity is a large establishment all over the world, focusing on being rich and famous.
People are focusing more on how the outside looks, thus the anti-poor, anti-gays, anti-arbortion, anti-immigrants, anti-intellectuals and anti-science. That is not what their founder was about.
Instead of people sitting and pointing fingers, wouldn’t it be great if we paid less attention to the problematic systems of beliefs and lived a more generous and loving life, with more thinking and understanding, and also showing compassion to those around us? This would be in support of the founder of christianity and move away from the religious bureaucracy.
We also have to pay attention to the fact that religion is ever changing to accommodate the world we live in, because the world is ever changing. Remember when christianity was racist, burned people believed to be witches, discriminated against the poor?..long gone are those days because the world is ever changing and religion changes with it. People get comfortable when things are going good for them, but it is not about you anymore if you decide you’re a christian, it is about those around us too. We ought to raise children teaching them to be compassionate, loving, generous and accommodating of others, not discriminating against certain groups of people, because that does not match with the same scriptures you will turn around to teach them.
I long for the day people who call themselves christians, move away from seeing themselves as a system of beliefs to expressing their faith through love and compassion. Religious services should not be about showing off how virtuous, anointed and holy, one is, while pointing fingers to those that don’t meet these standards, but about tackling the human needs around us. This would be a better world to live in if this happened, just like Jesus did.

Lastly a direct quote from the article, “people have seen ritual as an obsession for the religious community, and they haven’t seen the courage and commitment to shaping a more just and compassionate world”

Hi lovely people, I am officially done with spring break, which was a lot fun!, time for real life to begin now.. going back to lots of studying/work. Since its almost June, I have been on the lookout for a nice dress for graduation, or just a dress I could wear to a nice grown up dinner, so when eShakti (a custom-made clothing company)contacted me for a collaboration, I immediately went on their website and chose this dress!. I had seen other girls talk about eShakti, so it wasn’t all new to me. My favorite thing about them is the fact that you can customize your clothing to your liking, how great is that?. They have sizes 0-36W and also very diverse styling (modern chic, edgy, vintage..everything). Their prices are also very affordable for custom-made, quality clothing.

Here’s how it works:
1. Go on eShakti and choose an item
2. customize to your liking
3. Order and receive your item in 5-7 days! if you live in the U.S

What I chose:
I chose this black floral dress because I loved the sunflowers on it and also the cut of the dress. When I received it, it looked exactly like it did online, and the fabric is high quality from the feel. It fit me perfectly, I am very impressed. I wore the dress with minimal accessories to avoid having a “busy” look, since my dress is floral, then paired the look with my favorite Marshalls heels.

My favorite picks on the site: this , this , and this black and white one
My customization:
I chose to omit the pockets because honestly I didn’t think I would use them, and they would just make my hips look wider haha. That’s all I did, then ordered my size and the style as it was. If they don’t have your size, you could put in your measurements, and you can also customize the style, e.g: long or short sleeves, round or v-neck etc

Style – 90s kid

Yesterday I got off work and couldn’t wait to change into something comfortable, but I couldn’t wear pajamas since I had to run errands first, so I slipped on my softest dress top and my Old Navy tights, then decided to wear my denim jacket and when I looked in the mirror, I felt like a 90s kid with my afro puff and oversized denim jacket haha. I adore old fashion trends; effortless and unique. While I like to look well put together in modern fashion looks, there’s something about older fashion trends that makes me a little happier.

Merry Christmas!

merry christmas
You’ve probably heard this a million times and in so many ways, but…..from me to you….Merry christmas and happy holidays to those who don’t celebrate christmas. It’s officially that day we’ve all been preparing for. I unfortunately haven’t spent christmas with my family for a couple of years, but I spend most christmas days with friends, or extended family who live many states away. My first christmas away from my family was actually ok, I had an awesome group of friends from college and we cooked a ton of food, exchanged gifts and just had a good time with the girls. My second christmas without my family was the toughest, I chose to work extra shifts at work to distract myself because I was so homesick, it also snowed a ton in Washington and I had no power in my apartment for 3 days!!! – worst christmas ever (ha)
The other christmas days after that(2), I would either spend it with my roommate and some friends (invite people over) or with my fiancé and co-workers, nothing too crazy haha. This year, a friend invited us to a christmas party, but I will be working late that day, and am planning on getting some yummy food for my co-workers who worked all day christmas 🙂
Merry- christmas
On the other hand, my family gets together every year with everybody else in the family (I have a huge family), and just have a good ol’ time while sending me photos and videos of everything I am missing ;( Next year though, I will be going home for christmas, so thats something to look forward to.

Brooklyn

starwars
In case you are wondering, no I am not in Brooklyn New York (ha), wouldn’t that be lovely? My title is from  the movie Brooklyn which I saw a few weeks back with some wonderful company. Ian was dragged along of course, and he rolled his eyes every time we mentioned the movie, because it is a love/romance story that he thought was too girly for him, but later agreed it worth the time. I cried nearly the whole movie, so you know its an amazing love story haha. So I highly recommend it if you haven’t seen it, maybe a good movie to see with family or friends over the holidays.

Ok, in this post I will be mentioning a couple of my favorite things this season that I recommend you try if looking for things to do with others/for others.

  1. See a play; a charlie brown christmas play(good for kids too)// what a beautiful life// The nutcracker (I love the nutcracker!!)
  2. Make a meal for everyone; Cranberry and pomegranate bruschetta (I felt tears in my eyes after biting into this..you have to try this)// cranberry margaritas – you can make it non-alcoholic if you like// bacon wrapped brussels sprouts – perfect appetizer, literally took me 10 mins to prep and 30 mins in the oven..love it// potatoes – this are very good, everyone will like them// Eggnog French toast – even if you don’t like eggnog, this you will like.
  3. Go outdoors and do an activity – there are so many outdoor activities around the holidays, from shopping, snow sports (skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, or just walking) to just taking a stroll outside with after a big meal.

I hope you are all having a wonderful christmas eve, enjoy time off of work if you have it, and as always thanks for stopping by, I appreciate it.

In today’s world, nobody bats an eye when a male talks about adventuring/traveling alone, because we have set this as a norm, “males can do whatever they want” type of thing. However, in my mind and this is supported by real statistics, males are as much in danger adventuring/traveling alone as are women. When I moved to Washington state, the most attractive thing to me was the endless beauty in the wilderness. God truly did love this side of the world….I quickly became addicted to being outdoors, and I enjoyed hiking immensely. It is my way of distressing and recharging after stressful work weeks or school days. A few times I do hike with other people, but I love going solo because of the freedom to hike more difficult trails and just take it all in without being bothered. I never for one second felt threatened by anything/anyone on the trails, I meet a lot of fellow young lady hikers on the trails, hiking solo too and this encourages me even more.
image
Tips on hiking/camping/traveling/adventuring solo:

1. Know your environment well. This means doing a lot of research on the conditions of the place you are visiting, and also reading reviews about people’s experiences there. I feel very safe on Washington trails because the areas are overall very safe and far from urban places, meaning less chances for crimes. You are more likely to be in danger in a city full of people than in a Washington state trail in my opinion. I do not hike urban parks because homeless people go there for shelter, I prefer out and back trails that require driving far away from the city to get to.

2. Plan accordingly. Safety first. Have a first aid kit customized for yourself (if you have allergies, bring allergy medicine. Have pain medicine, antiseptic, bandages, small rope/tourniquet for emergency purposes, pepper spray or bear spray if in bear country, pocket knife – could be used for so many things including protecting yourself and a whistle too). Have extra food, extra clothing and most important dress for the weather.

3. Last tip, let someone know where you are. I always send a quick text to someone about where I am going to be and the time I expect to be back. If they don’t hear back from me at that time, then they would act accordingly.

I hope this makes you feel more at ease about going solo in whichever place you choose to. Just do your research well and be prepared. I met someone who loves camping solo and she always has a gun with her for safety, if you love adventure, don’t let anything stop you. Just be smart about things.

If you hate being alone and don’t care for solo adventuring, then find someone like minded and in somewhat same physical fitness(I don’t mean this in a bad way at all, if your partner can’t do what you can, then you don’t get to do what you want. Some people are also endless complainers and won’t stop whining – I have seen this a lot while hiking and it is so annoying) Any how, I hope this was somewhat of an encouragement to those seeking adventure, have fun and thanks for stopping by.
