Catching up

Hi there lovely ladies and gentlemen
My days have been rather monotonous consisting of large piles of school work and long days at work, leaving me wishing it was summer again, where I had so much time in my hands. Can you believe class got cancelled because of wind?, yes you read that right, apparently that is a very unsafe condition that demands cancellation of classes(am sure in certain areas of the world, strong winds are extremely dangerous, but yeah..no it wasn’t that bad) of course I was happy I didn’t have class but seriously?, I don’t see it as a good enough reason to cancel class, because that just means more work for me (online assignments) when I could have just sat in class pretending to listen to lecture. I hope my instructor doesn’t read my blog haha, she is a lovely woman but sometimes I think she enjoys leaving class early more than the students do.

Do you like my outfit?, I have never owned a wide brim wool hat, so I branched out style wise and I love it, more because I didn’t have to do my hair, even though it almost got blown off by the wind while I was out haha
I was thinking the other day how calculated I am about style branching, I spend a lot of months contemplating before i do something dramatic like owning a hat haha, I wanted this hat since January, and now is when I finally got it. I am definitely not an impulse shopper, I think of how and when I will wear whatever I got (unless I am gifted something). I know I don’t sound fun to go shopping with, but i promise I will try on everything in the store, I just end up leaving empty handed in most cases. You may not know this from looking at my blog posts but thats me in real life haha. I actually never used to be this way, I was a shopaholic when in high school thanks to my mom who lead the example haha, but when I started living solo, I just didn’t see the need to clutter my apartment with clothes, I hate having tons of clothes everywhere (biggest pet peeve)

When it rains

HM Winter coat

I have to admit that before I moved to Washington state, rainy weather always made me a little blue and all I would do on rainy days is sleep, but when you live in the rainiest state in the United States, you realize that you have to deal with it, and when you do get used to it its actually fun!
Walking in Seattle on a rainy day, I realized how comfortable satellites are in the rain, and its fun to people watch and see the “rainy weather fashion trend”, composed of fun colored boots and umbrellas. You also realize how many people wear “north face” coats – esp men
On this particular day it wasn’t too cold out, so my coat was half open most of the day. Ok ladies, how cute are my boots? I have to admit, they are the comfiest boots I have ever owned!
I have always wanted to own cute hunter boots and I went back and forth between colors and when I finally decided what color I wanted…the color (purple) was “unavailable”, so instead I got these UGG boots as a gift from my fiancรฉ and I couldn’t be happier! The inside has that comfy wool, so your feet feel like they are wrapped in little blankets haha

Hello November..

floral blazer
It’s unbelievable that November is here already, it is almost the end of the year! Can you believe it? I honestly feel like fall just slept through my fingers, I wanted to do more adventures during the fall but I found myself in the library more than I thought I would be. Am not complaining though, I found a really neat library to study at, and its almost becoming my second home….whats better than reading a good book(in this case my school books) on a rainy, dull day? haha, am not a nerd

Below, am going to share my current favorite bloggers, some I just found recently and some have been my favorites for a long time
I enjoy all of this blogs and get a lot of inspiration from them, so of course I am doing some free advertising because the authors do a great job and would love for my audience to discover them too. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

For bloggers reading this, I would love to check out some new blogs, so feel free to comment below your own blog if you like

1. In my Sunday best by Sade – She is a vintage lover and her blog is amazing, from the writing to the photography and also her sense of style. Sade is a UK blogger, but her style is something anyone anywhere can relate to. I recently just found her blog and I am addicted!

2. Delightfully Tacky by Liz – Such a great and from the heart blog. I never miss a post because I enjoy everything about her writing, photography, fashion sense and her personality too, which she expresses through her posts. You won’t be disappointed!

3. Trendencies by Claudia – This girl is so gorgeous (girl crush alert haha), she styles everything so flawlesslesly, I am always tempted to buy all the clothes she wears. She puts up great content, I absolutely enjoy all her posts and am always looking forward for more. She is from spain and has a youtube channel too (if you speak spanish)

4. From roses by Rebecca – I enjoy her content, she writes a lot of motivational/self-improvement type posts and brand reviews of different products she uses. I love her photography and writing. You should check her out

5. Fruity girl clementine by Clementine (am not sure this is her actual name) – French blogger, and another girl crush of mine, she is super creative with her personal style and photography, I enjoy her blog and hope you do too

6. A clothes horse by Rebecca – She recently moved to Ireland but I discovered her blog way back when she lived in the U.S, her style and writing is still something I enjoy, I love her vintage style (even though I wouldn’t pull of most of her clothing), I still enjoy her creativity and seeing Ireland through her eyes. She is quite the adventurer too, so you will not be bored

7. Blisful brit by Britney – I love her blog to pieces, she writes mostly about her adventures in the northwest which is my number one hobby…duh…I love to read about places she visits, she is also vegan and has a ton of recipes that I have tried a few times and loved. If you love the outdoors, you’ll like her

8. Twenty7 by Michelle – I may have mentioned Michelle’s blog before, I love this girl, she has an amazing sense of fashion, and puts out great content. I am always looking forward to her posts. Check her out

Thanks for stopping by ๐Ÿ™‚

Halloween is coming..

4

“Too much month at the end of the money?”….does this sound familiar? Not to fret, the month is almost all gone! I feel like October rushed by, soon it will be halloween, then Christmas time again before we even know it.
Thinking of last year at this moment, I was just a fresh grad nurse, just starting out on the floor solo, very nervous about performing nursing skills, and now I am back in school continuing my education and still working..but in a very different environment, more supportive, I am more confident and sure of myself, even though in most cases walking into work I still am a little nervous, not knowing what to expect..
All I can say is “#blessed”
I saw a Facebook post talking about how 20 year olds should stop complaining about life because it only gets worse once we hit 30, due to more responsibilities, etc haha and I guess its true to some point, so if you’re a 20 something year old crying over how hard your life is, take a chill pill and brace yourself, life is about to get even worse

I am excited to wear this dress during fall and winter because I love layering bright colored pieces with darker ones. I also love how good of a cut this jacket has, and the quality of it too. I have owned to for 4 years and it still looks the same, gotta love a good deal (wink)

Finally, I love this quote by Zooey Deschanel, and thought it would be nice to share, “Being tender and open is beautiful. As a woman, I feel continually sshhhh’ed. Too sensitive. Too mushy. Too wishy washy. Blah blah blah.. Don’t let someone steal your tenderness. Don’t allow the coldness and fear of others to tarnish your perfectly vulnerable beating heart. Nothing is more powerful than allowing yourself to truly be affected by things. Whether it’s a song, a stranger, a mountain, a rain drop, a tea kettle, an article, a sentence, a footstep, feel it all – look around you. All of this is for you. Take it and have gratitude. Give it and feel love “

Classic plaid

DSC_0518
So because it’s fall, I had to pull out my plaid shirt and do that classic white T-shirt and plaid shirt look. I felt so midwest, so I decided to pair the look with my chelsea boots which made the look more northwest?…ok now am just making up stuff haha
Its the perfect layering for fall because you don’t need a coat over it, and you look like a classic fashionable babe, and who doesn’t want that? In the great PNW I see a lot of people hiking in this kind of outfit, even though I would not go hiking looking this (I value comfort way too much to hike in jeans) I secretly love seeing these fashionable hikers. For me, this is more a casual look for school, hanging out with a friend or running errands.

Lastly, I have been reading/listening to audio books and thought it would be nice to share my current faves:
1. Mindy Kaling’s : why not me – If you love comedy this is funny especially if you’re female, guys may not relate to much in here.
2. The girl in the spider’s web – Awesome content, very well written plot, I was engaged from start to finish. If you are a Stieg Larson’s fan, this book was written by a different author since Larson passed away but the new writer doesn’t disappoint. This book is the 4th of a series, so if you haven’t read the rest you may want to start with The girl with a dragon tattoo.
3. Lastly The Fold by Peter Clines is my favorite of the three. It is a science fiction book with a mind blowing plot, so unpredictable and full of suspense, I really enjoyed this one. I will definitely read this again.

So after this mini photo session, I discovered how much I love touching my hair when posing for photos haha, I just don’t know what to do with my hands, so bear with me. Today I woke up, looked out the window, to see a perfect cold, damp and foggy morning and I wanted nothing more than to take photos out in the cold. I don’t know what it is but fog excites me (unless am driving).
The plan was to wear something fall-like but I found myself in an all black outfit.

My favorite item in this outfit is definitely my handbag/clutch from Francesca’s. I bought it to go to a wedding because I didn’t own a big enough clutch at the time, that could fit my phone, keys, wallet and a few lady essentials. I loved it at first sight because of the color and simplicity of it. It comes with a chain that you can hook up, so you can carry it as a cross body, as is the case here. If going out to dinner or in need of a clutch, you can detach the chain. It doesn’t have a zipper, but instead has a magnet that snaps it shut ๐Ÿ™‚
I hope you enjoyed this post, and have a lovely weekend everybody ๐Ÿ™‚

Awesome quote I stumbled upon “Work for a cause, not for applause, live life to express not to impress. Don’t strive to make your presence noticed, just make your absence felt” – Anon

Life of a 20 something..

DSC_0305_Fotor

Every time I meet a 20 something year old, especially at work, we immediately bond on the fact that we are young professionals just starting out the rest of our lives (career-wise) and are eager to learn from each other, always. For example, being a nurse, our patients trust us a lot, and sometimes as a young nurse (who looks 12 years old esp haha)..it takes a while for someone to completely trust me and not watch me like a hawk while I work, ready to correct me if I make a mistake. Is it frustrating? heck yeah…if this was an older nurse, the patient assumes they have been working long enough to know what they are doing and the trust is just there…by default….but for me, I have to work to earn it. I keep myself updated by reading up on different procedures, medical equipments, refreshing my knowledge on meds and their side effects, pathologies and their prognosis, surgeries and post-op care, etc

Many professionals in their 20’s have a lot of why’s….you hate being criticised by your peers, being called the new “So and so” , being babied/people over-explaining things to you…at times people may even assume certain mistakes at work are from you, and you may even be wrongly accused of doing things you didn’t do.
The important thing to remember, is that there is nothing wrong with your performance (unless there’s an obvious one, then fix it haha), it is the norm for people to react this way to new professionals. I found myself doing the same thing recently and a light bulb just went on in my head! And for those that are going through this, it will pass, this is the beginning of your amazing journey in whatever it is you’re doing.
Tips:
– Always be respectful towards your co-workers, don’t judge them based on how they do things, people do things in their own unique ways.
– Be humble and be willing to learn, always refresh your knowledge through fact based literature or from experts in the industry
– Know your goals and work persistently towards them
– It is okay to work overtime at times, you are just beginning a journey, don’t expect to have it all “cushy”
– Fake confidence if you don’t have it already
– Finally, enjoy the journey all the way..despite the challenges and many tears that you’ll shed. If the place you’re at doesn’t appreciate you and your handwork, find a place that does, if this is not possible…be patient things will eventually work out

Distressed denim outfit

forever 21
Hello friends, did you guys have a great weekend?, whether just unwinding at home or doing some fun activities?
The outfit am posting was my favorite this weekend, I wore the comfiest American Eagle distressed jeans and my black and white peplum top from forever 21. I am not big into jeans so I had never honestly bought anything from AE, and the first pair I happened to get are like a dream. I usually wear leggings mostly and this pants feel like leggings honestly, so comfy.

This weekend my fiancรฉ and I got to go see Pippin the play and Oh brother! it was amazing. The broadway actors and actresses on the play are so talented and the plot was amazing, I was hooked from start to finish (just so you know the last play I saw…I fell asleep….am not naming names haha). So if you guys like plays or are looking for something fun to do, Pippin is highly recommended.

Summer Favorites

clear face 2

Hey friends,
I have some favorites to share with you all, these products have seriously changed my life!!
Most of my friends know am always breaking out here and there (its never been major, just one or 2 zits the size of mt everest once in a while), but am happy to announce I have been “zit-free” for a whole 2 months!..yeah been feelin’ myself lately ha..I kid. Anyhow, my secret has been artistry essentials cleanser, lotion and toner that my friend Maggie introduced me to. I was skeptical at first because I have been through so many products in my life but I decided to try since I knew her and would find her if it didn’t work haha
So, I bought the 20 dollar trial kit (travel size pack) and I absolutely loved it. After I was through with that, I purchased the big size because I knew this was a keeper.

Feel free to check out Maggie’s website, there are so many options to choose from depending on you face type.
Other things i have been loving:
L'OREAL
This primer is amazing guys, it is super light and kind of evens your face so when you wear foundation on top of it just looks flawless. I am not super into make up but I like to have a clean, clear face (but I love lipsticks :)) and the L’Oreal powder foundation is my all time favorite – So light and covers your face perfectly
cvs
I have been painting my nails a lot lately since vacation time, and I love being able to slide it right off when I need a change, and these pads are the bomb dot com!, they’ve been around for a while but i had never tried them…just because….but am totally in love now

Disclaimer: I haven’t been sponsored/asked by any of these companies/products to promote, It’s just what has been working for me lately and i felt like sharing. Thanks for stopping by ๐Ÿ™‚

Doing your own engagement photos

Ian and I recently did our engagement photos, and I decided it would be fun to do it ourselves vs a professional photographer. I know hiring someone would have probably yielded better quality photos but we both are very happy with the photos we got.

Reasons I did this:

1. Engagement sessions are usually a good way to choose a wedding photographer and kind of bond/be comfortable with them, and also get engagement photos (duh), but our wedding will be in Kenya so we won’t meet the photographer until a few weeks before the wedding so it wouldn’t have been helpful in that way

2. It’s fun and a good learning process for me because I love photography

3. We saved some cash and got good use out of my DSLR

Wondering how we did it?, if you are a blogger you have probably used a tripod and self timer technique before, for non-bloggers, yes we used a tripod and self timer (you can use a remote but I hate remotes)

I used Ian to focus and kind of frame the photo, clicked the shutter and ran to pose haha…..it was fun, we had some good laughs

We chose a less populated site at the park close to us(with occasional joggers and dog walkers) – it is easier to naturally pose without onlookers and a good way to avoid photo bombers

We had a casual and a dress up session, took us about an hour and a half. We did lots of walking though, since the 2 sites are kind of far apart. Took about 67 good photos haha, I think a professional photographer will do about 300 takes or even more, so don’t gasp at the 67 takes

I think we did fairly well for a first, what do you guys think?
