Life Inspo!

I love to write, listen to and read things that feed my soul. I am on the spectrum of melancholic, thoughtful and indecisive on a scale of human to other type of human. I like to think of myself as either very stubborn or very easy going, and on rare occasions I can be in between that.

Below are some quotes I love to read now and then on my most beloved Pinterest board.

So do it. Decide.
Is this the life you want to live?
Is this the person you want to love?
Is this the best you can be?
Can you be stronger?, kinder?, more compassionate?
Breathe in… breathe out… Decide.

The day you had everything, I hope you remember when you had nothing.

To hate is an easy and lazy thing, but to love takes strength that we all have but few are willing to practice.

To love & be loved is why we exist

Times square NYC
This year, besides spending time with my awesome husband, I have spent so much time alone it’s insane. Most of that time I have spent listening to some type of podcast while driving somewhere, so maybe we can call this year the year of podcasts or the listening year (get the pun? ha!). I am a super introvert so spending time solo is nothing new, but this year has been a little extra. I didn’t realize it until I looked back and realized that it is almost fall. Living in the midwest has been a blessing and a curse. The blessing: It is mostly sunny and I am outdoors almost daily, unless am at work. The curse: It is freaking hard to make meaningful friendships here for me. I have met so many amazing people but none have turned out to be meaningful friendships and that has made me a little sad.
I like to have at least one friend at my current location who isn’t on my social media, so I can feel a normal connection with someone, without all the fakeness social media adds to friendships.
I am part to blame because I work and have school work and my week basically just disappears super quick, but being alone is starting to eat me up slowly.
I am starting to look forward to the days I work so I can catch up with my co-workers, which is sad seriously.

Better news:
I am obsessed with the show Insecure on HBO and I urge you all to try it.

I am looking forward to going to Chicago with Ian to see Hamilton and hang out and eat amazing food in the windy city

I am enjoying the summer break after summer classes (I made it on the deans list btw, not bragging..), and I am trying to make the most out of it.

I hit a big milestone last month, which was being a neuro-trauma nurse for a year y’all – phew, it’s been a trip!

Thank you for stopping by to see what I’ve been up to lately 🙂

Sunshine and some summer plans

I currently have my ideal work schedule, I feel as though writing this information and having it out there is only jinxing my happiness bubble, but am too ecstatic to not do it. I feel as though I’ve got a handle of my work-life balance and this is making me really happy and content at the moment.
I also have fallen in love with the green tea cream frappuccino from Starbucks, which I think has successfully found its way into my life (the company). If you know me well, you know how I try to resist any mainstream stuff, but the older I become, the more mainstream I become, it’s not such a bad thing I guess (I am trying to console myself here).
Ok, so today I was woken up at the crack of dawn, or maybe it was 9:30 a.m, to drive Ian to get an eye procedure done. He said it was going to only take 30 minutes, so I decided to find a coffee shop and get some breakfast. I had my laptop with me, so i did some school work as well, and when an hour and thirty minutes passed without getting a call from Ian, I casually strolled into the PX (army base shopping mall) to stretch my legs, and that is when I saw the sun glasses. I am not one for designer sun glasses or anything really, but I walked out with a pair of cute vera bradley sunglasses. They gave me a free sunglasses case (a coach one because I wanted a hard case), so I felt like that was a win (maybe not, but who cares haha).
I walked out of the PX and picked up Ian, then on my way home I spotted some bikes outside a thrift store (I have been seeing these bikes for the last few months and really want one). So I dropped Ian home and got myself a used new-ish bike, which cost less than my sun glasses. I loaded the bike into the back of my prius and drove home.
I am now planning on going to Katy trail to ride my new bike. Ian is on the fence about going with me because he doesn’t like bike riding, but he’ll come around to doing it, he just needs some coercing.
I am looking forward to a beautiful and amazing summer this year, even though I will still be doing school work, and I hope you are all too. Kisses and hugs gorgeous people!

Statue of liberty in New york city

On the ferry to Staten Island, you can see the statue of liberty

I will finally check off NYC on my bucket list of places to travel to. This week has been one of the most exciting weeks of my adult life. One thing about NYC is all the FOOD! I don’t know about any other cities but I think this place knows a thing or two about food.
Our first food stop was a small Japanese restaurant we found near our hotel after arriving late at night, and we were instantly blown away! We did a food tour in Brooklyn the next day and I was a little disappointed with the choice of places in the food tour, but everything was good, just not amazing. I have to come back to Brooklyn just for the food and music someday.
…continued a month later haha

NYC was fun, that city literally stole my heart. I felt like I was back in Nairobi, but it was 100 times busier and amazing and I loved it! I learnt I was awful at using the metro card (literally just swiping the damn thing!), and Ian glared at me for continuously getting locked behind those bars as the subway left the platform without us several times..oh gosh (insert facepalm), it was kind of embarrassing and amusing at the same time how swiping a metro card can require “skill”

Besides embarrassing myself at the subway station, we got to do an all-day walking tour of NYC (I don’t recommend it, it was tedious, if you are good at planning you can do it yourself), saw broadway shows and walked around time square, went back to Brooklyn and did some free wine & liquor tasting at a grocery store while waiting for a restaurant to open, ate the best food at said restaurant, and walked on the pier and across the bridge.

We did all the tourist stuff and I am hoping the next time we go back we can avoid all of that and do other things. I had so much fun and can’t wait to go back.

Things to do near fort Leonard wood

It’s almost been a year here at Fort Leonard Wood and even though I am no expert in “army life” stuff, I would like to write about what you can expect here and maybe that will be beneficial to military spouse/family member somewhere.
I have been more involved with army life since this is a small army town and plugging in helps social wise.

Fort Leonard wood is one of the biggest military bases, so there is a very large community of families, single people, fitness groups, mommy meet-ups for play dates, small business owner meet-ups, churches and volunteer events, hobby classes etc. Here are some groups to get plugged into FLW: Army wives, fitness/social groups , Events and happenings , FLW wives (2) . I am sure there are many others for specific groups, but that is a great way to get to know people and go to events.

Attractions near FLW:

In St. Roberts and Waynesville, MO:
1. Restaurants I like: Mama mia (greek food), Luna java coffee (great coffee and breakfast) , Cafe Korea, mizeki Japanese sushi bar with a hibachi grill, Mexican restaurants in st. Roberts, Thai food and a burger place/bar (hoppers) in downtown Waynesville, Thai truck near FLW gate and a wine bar downtown Waynesville. Those are my favorite so far, they are some others I haven’t tried yet.

2 Park in downtown Waynesville is a good place to go fish, run, walk and they hold a farmers market there during spring, summer and fall. There are two other parks in st. Roberts that I haven’t been to yet, and there are some awesome hiking spots on base, with clear directions on how to get to them.

Places you have to drive 45 mins to an hour+ to:
1. Missouri botanical gardens, the zoo, comedy shows, concerts, restaurants, shopping and many more in St. Louis
2. Saint James wineries and restaurants (Sybill’s is really good)
3. Rolla – Fugitive beach (open in summer)
4. Meramec springs in saint James
5. Elephant rocks hike
6. Dogwood canyon – hike, bike rides, restaurant
7. Springfield restaurants – This little town has an abundant amount of eating places, from expensive and fancy dinners to little sandwich shops, can’t go wrong here
8. Hahatonka state park – very huge and hard to finish in a day
9. The shut-ins
10. Meramec caves
11. Branson – for shows, water activities, adventure-type activities, shopping and restaurants.

These are a few of what I have done so far. I work a lot, and I am taking classes full time also, so haven’t had as much time in my hands to explore. I hope you enjoy your time here in FLW.

Well, technically the last outfit of October.
How adorable is this sweater guys?, it was a total impulse purchase at Ross this weekend. I was at the outlet mall in St. Louis this weekend, and the Ross at that location has some serious style. This was not the case in Washington state. Most of the Ross stores there were disorganized and hard to find any cute stuff, so you can imagine my surprise when I walked into this particular store.

How did you guys celebrate Halloween?, I slept through Halloween weekend, but was able to go see miss peregrine’s home for peculiar children last night. I am not too keen on dressing up for Halloween, so that didn’t happen.

My fall uniform

Hey laides!

My fall uniform.

Do you guys own a piece of clothing that you feel like yourself most in?, for me it’s this vest. I absolutely love this vest and you can spot me wearing it over and over in the warmer months. I got it from old navy a couple years ago and it’s one of my old navy buys that I haven’t regretted haha.
I can’t believe Halloween is almost here, it’s especially exciting because Ian and I met on Halloween night, so we celebrate our anniversary on Halloween :). I hope you guys have a wonderful Halloween and stay safe
I wanted to get dressed up this year, but I forgot to get a costume online in good time and now it is too late.

This weekend, I am off a long stretch of work days and all I want is to relax and recover from the physical drain that nursing comes with. I have been enjoying reading blogs and seeing what people have been up to, since I can’t catch up when I am working.
I got a few snaps of what I am wearing in downtown Springfield, MO. Springfield is a small midwestern town with a lot of beauty hidden in it. I stumble upon beautiful gardens and houses while driving from work or going grocery shopping and I am amazed by the number of coffee shops in this little town. Good ones too. There isn’t a lot of diversity here so I feel like I get a lot of stares (which I don’t care for) in places, and conversation starters are always like,”are you from Springfield?” I don’t know what to make of these interactions yet, but I love the town aesthetic so far. Lots of colorful and cute cupcake shops everywhere.
Oh, and I learned a beautiful mess sisters are from Springfield, how cool. I am yet to visit Emma’s restaurant : the golden girl rum club, if I do I will let you know how that went.

How to look classy without hurting your wallet

jump suits
Be thrifty and shop the sales.

This is my only advice because it has worked wonders for me. I have noticed some of my cheapest clothing is what I look most classy in, and some of my most expensive items I don’t even wear that much and barely feel that stylish in. I am not saying it’s 100% not worth buying expensive name brand items, but when you score some “hot & classy” items on the sale rack, it does make you feel a certain way haha.

I scored this jumpsuit at Ross for 10 bucks! (not even joking), when I needed a last minute classy piece of clothing to wear to Ian’s residency graduation. The occasion was semi-formal dinner and I wanted to feel very elegant in whatever I was wearing. My first time ever attending a semi-formal grown up dinner event, I wore a dress that literally made me feel like a potato haha, and I never wanted to have that feeling again!

My favorite thrifty finds (designer labels on sale) stores are Marshalls and Ross. Ross can be a little overwhelming sometimes if it is a disorganized store, but I have found some treasures here.

The art of wearing crop tops

high waisted jeans and crop tops
Casual look of the week – crop tops

I don’t wear crop tops as much as I would love, but the two that I own, I absolutely love them. Crop tops back in the 90’s were almost a taboo because most people were more conservative and didn’t want skin showing, (at least where I lived at the time) so my parents absolutely forbid me from wearing them, but I secretly admired the style when I spotted models on magazines or TV wearing them.

Fast forward, they’re back now and better than ever. This is one of my two crop tops, it’s more casual and I mostly wear it with high waisted jeans (the classic way to wear crop tops). As a short girl though (5’1), I feel like the look doesn’t pop as much as it does in a taller girl, but I’m still in the search for some nice high waisted jeans and more crop tops.

I paired the casual look with my target Keds because I was going to be running around all day and needed comfortable shoes.
